On 11 December 2025, C.I.P. Citizens in Power (CIP) was invited to Latsia Gymnasium in Nicosia on the occasion of International Teachers’ Day to present the first draft of the EcoStories Pedagogical E-book, “EcoStories: Citizen Science for Inclusive STEM Education and Climate Action,” and gather teachers’ feedback to support its refinement into the beta version (A2.6). 

The E-book is a practical, research-based guide designed to help secondary school teachers integrate Citizen Science into STEM subjects. It combines theory, ready-to-use classroom methodologies and real project examples, with a focus on environmental monitoring, climate literacy, inquiry-based learning and inclusive educational practices. 

Around 40 teachers from a wide range of disciplines joined the in-person seminar, turning the presentation into a lively professional exchange. 

Citizen Science Beyond the Science Classroom 

The diversity of participants immediately stood out. Teachers of Philology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Languages, Arts, Physical Education and STEM subjects all took part in the discussion. 

Very quickly, the conversation moved beyond the boundaries of traditional science lessons. Participants reflected on how Citizen Science can strengthen collaboration across subjects, support inquiry-based learning and make students feel that they are contributing to something real. 

For many, the value lay not only in environmental awareness, but in what the approach does pedagogically: it builds classroom cohesion, strengthens critical thinking and shifts students from passive listeners to active investigators. 

Even in school contexts where migrant inclusion is not seen as an immediate challenge, teachers recognised the broader power of participatory science to enhance engagement and belonging. 

“This Is the Teaching of Tomorrow” 

One moment captured the spirit of the event. A Cypriot teacher reflected on the limits of traditional teacher-centred instruction and insisted that approaches like Citizen Science represent “the teaching of tomorrow.” In her view, the future classroom is one where teachers facilitate, students investigate, and learning connects directly to real-world processes. 

Her statement resonated with others in the room, who expressed optimism that education is gradually shifting toward more collaborative, skills-oriented and meaningful models of learning. 

Looking Ahead 

The A2.6 seminar in Cyprus demonstrated that dissemination is more than sharing results. It is about dialogue, feedback and co-creation. 

When teachers are invited into the process, innovation becomes grounded in practice. And when classrooms move from passive content delivery to active investigation, science becomes more than a subject, it becomes participation.
